Indications

• Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis
• Effective against susceptible strains of bacteria

Pharmacology

• Inhibition of topoisomerase II and IV
• Essential for replication, transcription, and repair of bacterial DNA

Dosage & Administration

• One drop in the affected eye 3 times per day for 7 days
• Thin and even application of eye ointment
• Intraocular injection dosage guidelines

Interaction

• Not known to inhibit specific cytochrome P450 isozymes

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or quinolones

Side Effects

• Frequently reported ocular adverse events
• Nonocular adverse events reported at a rate of 1-4%

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus
• Caution while administering to nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

• Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms
• Examination with aid of magnification recommended
