Indications

Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis
Effective Intraocular Antibiotic for preventing Bacterial Endophthalmitis
Indicated for susceptible strains of specific microorganisms

Pharmacology

Antimicrobial action from inhibition of topoisomerase II and IV
Inhibition of DNA replication, transcription, and repair in bacterial DNA
Key role in partitioning of chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division

Dosage & Administration

Eye Drops: One drop in affected eye 3 times per day for 7 days
Eye Ointment: Thin and even application 3 times a day for 2 days, then 2 times a day for 5 days
Intraocular Injection: Administered as 0.2-0.4 ml dose prior to ocular surgery

Interaction

No drug-drug interaction studies conducted
In vitro studies suggest no inhibition of specific cytochrome P450 isozymes

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones

Pregnancy & Lactation

Use during pregnancy should consider potential benefit justifying potential risk to fetus
Presumed excretion in human milk, caution for nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

Discontinue use if superinfection occurs
Patient examination with magnification advised
Patients should be advised not to wear contact lenses with bacterial conjunctivitis symptoms
