Description

  • Moxquin ophthalmic solution is indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of various microorganisms. It is an antimicrobial drug with a pharmacological action that inhibits topoisomerase II and IV. The dosage and administration include instructions for eye drops, eye ointment, and intraocular injection. The product has contraindications, potential side effects, and precautions to be taken, along with storage conditions and therapeutic class.

Indications

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis treatment
  • Effective against aerobic and gram-negative microorganisms
  • Intraocular injection for preventing postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis

Pharmacology

  • Inhibition of topoisomerase II and IV
  • Essential enzyme involvement in DNA replication, transcription, and repair in bacteria

Dosage & Administration

  • One drop in the affected eye 3 times per day for 7 days (Eye Drops)
  • Thin and even application of eye ointment
  • Intraocular injection administered prior to ocular surgery

Interaction

  • No drug-drug interaction studies conducted
  • In vitro studies indicate no inhibition of specific cytochrome P450 isozymes

Contraindications

  • History of hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones

  • Nonocular adverse events such as fever, increased cough, infection, rash, and more

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms
  • Discontinue use if superinfection occurs
  • Examination with magnification recommended
  • Advice against wearing contact lenses with bacterial conjunctivitis symptoms
