Odycin 0.5% (Ophthalmic Solution)

Indications

• Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of specified organisms
• Highly effective Intraocular Antibiotic to prevent Postoperative Bacterial Endophthalmitis

Pharmacology

• Antimicrobial action through inhibition of the topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV
• Involvement in replication, transcription, and repair of bacterial DNA

Dosage and administration

• Eye Drops: One drop in the affected eye 3 times per day for 7 days
• Eye Ointment: Thin and even application to the affected eye as per prescribed schedule
• Intraocular injection: Administer as per doctor's advice

Interaction

• In vitro studies indicate no inhibition of specified cytochrome P450 isozymes
• No drug-drug interaction studies conducted with Odycin ophthalmic solution

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones

Side effects

• Frequently reported ocular adverse events including conjunctivitis, decreased visual acuity, dry eye, etc.
• Nonocular adverse events reported at a rate of 1-4%

Pregnancy and lactation

• Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus
• Caution advised when administered to nursing mothers

Precautions and warnings

• Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi
• Patients advised not to wear contact lenses if signs and symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis

Storage conditions

• Store below 25°C
• Do not freeze or touch dropper tip to any surface
• Do not use after one month of first opening
