Description

  • Aciflox is indicated for the treatment of adults with various infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms, including community-acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), acute maxillary sinusitis, urinary tract infections, bacterial prostatitis, bacterial diarrhea, and osteomyelitis. It is also used for the treatment of tuberculosis in combination with rifampicin and isoniazid, and leprosy in combination with standard drugs.

Drug Interaction

  • Most frequent side effects: Photosensitivity reaction, diarrhea, nausea, headache, dyspepsia, dizziness, insomnia, abdominal pain, pruritus, taste perversion, QTc interval prolongation, vomiting, flatulence, vasodilatation

Pregnancy and Lactation

  • No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
  • Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus

Precautions and Warnings

  • Discontinue therapy at first signs or symptoms of phototoxicity reaction
  • Safety and effectiveness not established in children, adolescents, pregnant women, and lactating women
  • Adequate hydration to prevent highly concentrated urine
  • Administer with caution in the presence of renal insufficiency
  • Avoid concomitant prescription of medications known to prolong the QTc interval
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure
