Pharmacology
- Inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV
- Effective against gram positive organisms
- Well absorbed
- Distributed well into the body
- Metabolized by the liver

Dosage & Administration
- Recommended daily dose for normal renal function
- Recommended daily dose for renal impairment
Interaction
- Chelation complexes with aluminium and magnesium cations
- Does not interact with theophylline, caffeine, warfarin, or cimetidine
- Probenecid does not alter pharmacokinetics
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency
- History of Achilles tendinitis following fluoroquinolones use

- Moderate to severe phototoxic reactions
- Safety and effectiveness not established in children, adolescents, pregnant or lactating women
- Adequate hydration to prevent highly concentrated urine
- Administer with caution in renal insufficiency
- Avoid concomitant prescription of medications known to prolong QTc interval
- Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight
