Indications
- Treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus infection in adults
- Treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus infection in pediatric patients 2 years of age and older
Dosage & Administration
- 0.5 mg once daily for nucleoside-treatment-naive adults and adolescents 16 years of age
- 1 mg once daily for Lamivudine-refractory patients
- 1 mg once daily for patients with decompensated liver disease
- Administration on an empty stomach
- Missed dose instructions
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of HBV polymerase activity
- Competing with natural substrate deoxyguanosine triphosphate
- Activation by kinases
- Incorporation into DNA
Interaction
- Co-administration with Lamivudine or Adefovir dipivoxil

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Entecavir or any component of the product

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Unknown effect on HBV transmission from mother to infant
- Excretion in human milk
- Instruction not to breastfeed while taking Entecavir

- Lactic acidosis risk
- Exacerbations of hepatitis after discontinuation of treatment
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below the age of 2 years not established
- Care in dose selection for geriatric patients
- Dose adjustment in renal impairment
Overdose Effects
- No reported experience of Teviral overdosage in patients
- Healthy subjects received up to 20 mg daily with no unexpected adverse events
- Standard supportive treatment if overdosage occurs
