Indications
- Treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus infection in adults and pediatric patients
- Evidence of active viral replication
- Elevation in serum aminotransferases
- Histologically active disease
Pharmacology
- Competes with natural substrate deoxyguanosine triphosphate
- Inhibition of all three activities of HBV polymerase
- Activation by kinases for incorporation into DNA
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose for nucleoside-treatment-naive adults and adolescents 16 years of age
- Recommended dose for Lamivudine-refractory or known Lamivudine or Telbivudine resistance mutations
- Recommended dose for patients with decompensated liver disease (adult)
- Administration on an empty stomach
- Missed dose instructions
Interaction
- Co-administration with Lamivudine or Adefovir dipivoxil
- Effects of co-administration with other drugs
- Monitoring of patients when co-administered with certain drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Entecavir or any component of the product

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Effect on transmission of HBV from mother to infant
- Excretion in human milk
- Instruction not to breastfeed while taking Entecavir
Precautions & Warnings
- Lactic acidosis
- Severe hepatomegaly with steatosis
- Exacerbations of hepatitis after discontinuation of treatment
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below the age of 2 years not established
- Response in subjects aged 65 years and over
- Dose adjustment in renal impairment
Overdose Effects
- No experience of Virenta overdosage reported in patients
- Healthy subjects received up to 20 mg daily for up to 14 days
- Standard supportive treatment for overdose
