Tamiflu 75 mg (Capsule)

Indications

• Prevention of flu in adults and adolescents
• Treatment of flu in adults and children

Pharmacology

• Oseltamivir carboxylate inhibits neuraminidase
• Prevents release of viruses from infected cells

Dosage

• Standard oral dose for treatment in adults and adolescents
• Recommended oral dose for prophylaxis in adults and adolescents
• Dosage for treatment and prophylaxis in pediatric patients

Administration

• May be taken with or without food
• May be mixed with sweetened food products for easier ingestion

Interaction

• Unlikely to have clinically significant drug interactions
• Specifically does not alter plasma levels of amoxicillin

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any components

Side Effects

• Frequently reported adverse events like nausea and vomiting
• Additional adverse events occurring in <1% of patients

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Category C in pregnancy
• Unknown excretion in human milk
• Use in lactating mothers should justify potential risks to the breast-fed infant

Precautions & Warnings

• Efficacy not established in illnesses other than influenza caused by Types A and B viruses
• Efficacy not established if treatment begins after 40 hours of symptoms

Use in Special Populations

• Safety and pharmacokinetics not evaluated in hepatic impairment
• Dose adjustment recommended for patients with serum creatinine clearance <30 mL/min
• Safety established in geriatric use
• Not indicated for influenza treatment or prophylaxis in pediatric patients younger than 1 year

Overdose Effects

• No experience of overdose reported
• Single doses of up to 1000 mg associated with nausea and/or vomiting

Storage Conditions

• Store at 25°C
• Reconstituted suspension: Store between 2-8°C or at 25°C for specific durations
• Do not freeze
