Indications

  • Prevention and treatment of Candida infections of oral cavity, esophagus and intestinal tract
  • Prophylaxis against oral candidiasis in newborns
  • Prophylaxis of Candida overgrowth during antibiotic courses

Pharmacology

  • Antifungal antibiotic
  • Fungistatic and fungicidal activity against yeasts and fungi including Candida albicans
  • Binds to sterols in the fungal cell membrane
  • Poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract

Dosage & Administration

  • Children:
    • 1,00,000 units (1 ml) for intestinal and oral candidiasis
    • 1,00,000 units (1 ml) for prophylaxis in newborns
  • Adult:
    • 5,00,000 units (5 ml) for intestinal or esophageal candidiasis
    • 10,00,000 units (10 ml) for prophylaxis of intestinal candidiasis
    • 10,00,000 units (10 ml) for prophylaxis during antibiotic therapy
    • 1,00,000 units (1 ml) for dental sores and oral infection
  • Elderly:
    • 5,00,000 units (5 ml) for those unable to swallow tablets
