Indications

  • Prevention and treatment of Candida infections in oral cavity, esophagus, and intestinal tract
  • Effective prophylaxis against oral candidiasis in infants born of mothers with vaginal candidiasis
  • Prophylaxis of Candida overgrowth during courses of broad-spectrum antibiotics

Pharmacology

  • Antifungal antibiotic
  • Fungistatic or fungicidal activity against a variety of yeasts and fungi including Candida albicans
  • Binds to sterols in the fungal cell membrane to disrupt its function

Dosage & Administration

  • For children: 1,00,000 units (1 ml) for oral candidiasis, prophylaxis in newborn, and more
  • For adults: 5,00,000 units (5 ml) for candidiasis treatment, 10,00,000 units (10 ml) for prophylaxis
  • Dosage adjustments for specific conditions and elderly patients

Contraindications

  • No known contraindication

  • Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea with high doses
