Indications

Pharmacology
Fluconazole is a potent inhibitor of fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzymes.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults:
- 150 mg for Vaginal Candidiasis
- 200 mg in 1st day for Oropharyngeal Candidiasis
- 200 mg in 1st day for Oesophageal Candidiasis
- 150 mg weekly for Tinea corporis/Tinea cruris/Tinea pedis
- 50 mg daily for Kerion
- 400 mg for Pityriasis versicolor
- 150 mg weekly for Onychomycosis
- 400 mg on first day for invasive candidal infections and cryptococcal infections
- Children:
- 1-2 mg/kg daily for Superficial Candidiasis
- 3-6 mg/kg daily for Systemic Candidiasis & Cryptococcal infection
- Elderly patient: Use normal dose if no evidence of renal impairment
- Renal Impairment: Dosage intervals are modified based on creatinine clearance
Interaction
Fluconazole shows interactions with warfarin, sulphonyl ureas, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampicin, oral contraceptives, cyclosporin, theophylline, and food.
Contraindications
Fluconazole should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or related triazole compounds.

Pregnancy & Lactation
Fluconazole should not be used in pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential unless adequate contraception is employed.
Precautions & Warnings
- Abnormalities of hepatic, renal, haematological and other biochemical function tests
- Rarely, hepatic necrosis
- Exfoliative cutaneous reactions
- Discontinue therapy if rash develops in superficial fungal infections
- Not recommended during lactation
- Not likely to impair ability to drive or use machinery
Use in Special Populations

Overdose Effects
Supportive measures, symptomatic treatment, forced volume diuresis, and haemodialysis may be adequate.
