Indications
- Vaginal Candidiasis

Pharmacology
Triazole antifungal agent; inhibitor of fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzymes
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: varying doses for different indications
- Child dosages based on age and weight
- Specific dosing for elderly patients and those with renal impairment
- Dosage adjustments for patients receiving regular dialysis
Interaction
- Interactions with warfarin, sulphonyl ureas, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampicin, oral contraceptives, cyclosporin, food, cemetidine, antacids, theophylline
- Potential for drug-drug interactions with other medications
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or related triazole compounds
Side Effects
- Common side effects: gastrointestinal symptoms, nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, flatulence
- Rare adverse events: rash, anaphylaxis
Pregnancy & Lactation
Adverse fetal effects seen in animals at high dose levels, not recommended for use in pregnancy or lactation unless adequate contraception is employed
Precautions & Warnings
- Abnormalities in hepatic, renal, haematological and other biochemical function tests observed in some patients
- Rare cases of hepatic necrosis
- Rare reports of exfoliative cutaneous reactions
- Use in lactation not recommended
- Unlikely to impair ability to drive or use machinery
Use in Special Populations
- Elderly: normal dose recommended if no evidence of renal impairment
- Renal impairment: dosage adjustments based on creatinine clearance
Overdose Effects
Supportive and symptomatic treatment, gastric lavage if necessary, potential for increased elimination with forced volume diuresis or haemodialysis
