Indications
- Vaginal Candidiasis

Pharmacology
Triazole antifungal agent, potent inhibitor of fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzymes, essential component of fungal cell membrane responsible for the synthesis of ergosterol.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: Varying dosage for different indications
- Child dosage based on weight
- Use in Specific Population - Elderly, Renal Impairment, Children
Interaction
- Fuconazole's interaction with warfarin
- Interaction with oral sulphonylureas
- Interaction with hydrochlorothiazide
- Interaction with phenytoin and rifampicin
- Interaction with combined oral contraceptive
- Interaction with cyclosporin
- Absorption interaction with food, cimetidine, antacids, and irradiation
- Interaction with theophylline
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or related triazole compounds

Pregnancy & Lactation
Adverse fetal effects seen in animals only at high dose levels, not recommended for use in pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential unless using adequate contraception
Precautions & Warnings
- Abnormalities in hepatic, renal, hematological and biochemical function tests in some patients
- Rare cases of hepatic necrosis
- Exfoliative cutaneous reactions
- Use during lactation not recommended
- Unlikely to impair ability to drive or use machinery
Use in Special Populations
- Elderly: normal dose if no evidence of renal impairment
- Renal impairment: dosage adjustment based on creatinine clearance
Overdose Effects
Supportive measures and symptomatic treatment, forced volume diuresis may increase elimination rate, haemodialysis decreases plasma levels by approximately 50%
