Indications

Pharmacology
Triazole antifungal agent, potent inhibitor of fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzymes
Dosage & Administration
- Adults dosage for various conditions
- Child dosage for Superficial Candidiasis and Systemic Candidiasis & Cryptococcal infection
- Dosage adjustments for elderly patient, renal impairment, and children
Interaction
- Interaction with warfarin, sulfonylureas, hydrochlorothiazide, phenytoin, rifampicin, combined oral contraceptives, cyclosporin, food, cimetidine, antacids, theophylline
- No drug-drug interaction studies with other medications have been conducted
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or related triazole compounds
Side Effects
- Common gastrointestinal symptoms
- Rare adverse events such as rash
- Rare cases of anaphylaxis
Pregnancy & Lactation
Adverse fetal effects seen in animals at dose levels associated with maternal toxicity, not recommended in pregnancy or women of childbearing potential unless adequate contraception is employed
Precautions & Warnings
- Abnormalities of hepatic, renal, haematological, and biochemical function tests in some patients
- Rare cases of hepatic necrosis
- Rare development of exfoliative cutaneous reactions
- Not recommended for use in nursing mothers
- Unlikely to impair a patient's ability to drive or use machinery
Use in Special Populations
- Use in the elderly
- Dosage adjustments for renal impairment
Overdose Effects
Supportive measures and symptomatic treatment, forced volume diuresis may increase elimination rate, haemodialysis decreases plasma levels by approximately 50%
