Pharmacology
Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal agent. It is a potent inhibitor of fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzymes responsible for the synthesis of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane.

Contraindications
Fluconazole should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or related triazole compounds.
Side Effects

Pregnancy & Lactation
Fluconazole should not be used in pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential unless adequate contraception is employed.
Precautions & Warnings
- Observation of hepatic, renal, and other biochemical function tests
- Assessment of risk-benefit ratio in case of liver enzyme rise
- Cutaneous reactions
- Discontinuation in case of rash during treatment
- Use not recommended during lactation
- Unlikelihood of therapy impairing ability to drive or use machinery
Use in Special Populations

- Dosage adjustments in patients with renal impairment
Overdose Effects
Supportive and symptomatic treatment in case of overdosage. Forced volume diuresis may increase elimination rate. Haemodialysis may decrease plasma levels.
