Indications
- Schizophrenia
- Bipolar disorder
- Adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder
- Irritability associated with autistic disorder
- Agitation associated with schizophrenia or bipolar mania
Pharmacology
- Atypical antipsychotic
- Partial agonist activity at Dopamine D2 and Serotonin 5-HT 1A receptors
- Antagonist activity at Serotonin 5-HT 2A receptors
Dosage
- Schizophrenia - Initial Dose: 10-15 mg/day
- Bipolar mania - Recommended Dose: 15 mg/day
- Major depressive disorder - Maximum Dose: 15 mg/day
Administration
- Oral formulations
- Administer once daily without regard to meals
- IM injection - Maximum daily dose 30 mg
Interaction
- Caution with other centrally acting drugs and alcohol
- Carbamazepine can increase clearance
- Ketoconazole, quinidine, fluoxetine or paroxetine can inhibit elimination

- Known hypersensitivity to Aripiprazole

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings
- Increased risk of cerebrovascular adverse events in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis
- Increased risk of suicidality with antidepressants
- Discontinue if clinically appropriate in case of tardive dyskinesia
- Use cautiously in patients with a history of seizures
Overdose Effects
- No fatalities observed at doses up to 1080 mg
- Signs and symptoms include nausea, vomiting, asthenia, diarrhea, and somnolence
