Indications

Pharmacology
- Triazole antifungal agent
- Potent inhibitor of fungal cytochrome P-450 dependent enzymes
- Responsible for the synthesis of ergosterol in fungal cell membrane

Interaction
- Effect on prothrombin time with warfarin
- Co-administration with oral sulphonylureas

Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Fluconazole or related triazole compounds

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Adverse fetal effects in animals at high dose levels
- Not recommended in pregnancy or in women of childbearing potential
- Use in lactating mothers not recommended
Precautions & Warnings
- Observation of hepatic, renal, haematological, and biochemical function tests
- Risk of hepatic necrosis
- Rare development of severe cutaneous reactions
- Discontinuation of therapy in case of rash
- Not recommended during lactation
- Unlikely to impair ability to drive or use machinery
Use in Special Populations
- Normal dose usage in elderly with no evidence of renal impairment
- Dose adjustment in patients with renal impairment
- Dosage modification according to creatinine clearance
Overdose Effects
- Supportive and symptomatic treatment
- Gastric lavage if necessary
- Forced volume diuresis for increased elimination rate
- Hemodialysis decreases plasma levels by approximately 50%
