Pharmacological action
Interacts with 14-α-sterol demethylase, inhibiting ergosterol synthesis, enhancing fungal cellular permeability, and producing accumulation of toxic metabolite.
Indication
- Treatment and prophylaxis of infections involving Malassezia yeast such as pityriasis versicolor, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and dandruff
- Topical application in the treatment of dermatophyte infections like tinea corporis and tinea pedis
- Infections of the skin, hair, and nails by yeasts and dermal mucosal infections
- Maintenance and prophylactic treatment to prevent recurrence and mycotic infections in immunocompromised patients
Mode of administration
- Shampoo: Leave on affected areas for 3-5 minutes before rinsing.
- Cream: Apply twice daily for tinea pedis, once or twice daily for other infections
- Tablet: Dosage varies as per indication, ranging from once daily to twice daily

- Tablet: Reduced absorption with certain medications, potential for reduced efficacy or increased serum levels with other medications
