Pharmacological action

Interacts with 14-α-sterol demethylase, inhibiting ergosterol synthesis, enhancing fungal cellular permeability, and producing accumulation of toxic metabolite.

Indication

  • Treatment and prophylaxis of infections involving Malassezia yeast such as pityriasis versicolor, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and dandruff
  • Topical application in the treatment of dermatophyte infections like tinea corporis and tinea pedis
  • Infections of the skin, hair, and nails by yeasts and dermal mucosal infections
  • Maintenance and prophylactic treatment to prevent recurrence and mycotic infections in immunocompromised patients

Mode of administration

  • Shampoo: Leave on affected areas for 3-5 minutes before rinsing.
  • Cream: Apply twice daily for tinea pedis, once or twice daily for other infections
  • Tablet: Dosage varies as per indication, ranging from once daily to twice daily
