Indications
- Halcinonide is indicated for the relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.
Common Dosage Forms
- Cream
- Ointment
Typical Dosage

Side Effects
- Common side effects may include burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, secondary infection, and skin atrophy.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to halcinonide or any component of the formulation.
Pregnancy Category
- Pregnancy Category C - Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus, and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Lactation Safety
- It is not known whether halcinonide is excreted in human milk. Use caution when administering to a lactating woman.
Drug Interactions
- No significant drug interactions have been reported with halcinonide.
Overdose Symptoms
- Topical corticosteroid overdose may lead to manifestations of hypercortisolism, such as Cushing's syndrome. Symptoms include weight gain, round face, truncal obesity, striae, and hypertension.
Antidote for Overdose
- Discontinue halcinonide therapy and initiate supportive care as needed.
Storage Conditions
- Store halcinonide at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Pharmacokinetics
- Absorption: Halcinonide is absorbed through the skin following topical application.
- Distribution: The distribution of halcinonide in the body after absorption is not well characterized.
- Metabolism: Halcinonide undergoes hepatic metabolism.
- Excretion: Elimination of halcinonide and its metabolites primarily occurs through urine and feces.
Precautions
- Halcinonide should be used with caution in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to corticosteroids.
Warnings
- Halcinonide is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and do not apply to broken or infected skin areas.
