Mechanism of Action

  • Inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis by blocking DNA gyrase enzyme

Indications

  • Urinary tract infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria

Typical Dosage

  • 500 mg every 6 hours

Pediatric Dosage

  • 10 mg/kg/day divided into 4 doses

Geriatric Dosage

  • Dose adjustment may be needed based on renal function
