Mechanism of Action

  • Irreversibly inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell.

Indications

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Peptic ulcer disease
  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
  • Erosive esophagitis

Common Dosage Forms

  • Tablet
  • Delayed-release oral suspension

Typical Dosage

  • 40 mg once daily for GERD
  • 40 mg twice daily for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

Pediatric Dosage

  • 5-20 mg daily based on weight and condition

Geriatric Dosage

  • Usually similar to adult dosage, but may be adjusted based on renal function

Contraindications
