Mechanism of Action
- Irreversibly inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell.
Indications
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Peptic ulcer disease
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- Erosive esophagitis
Common Dosage Forms
- Tablet
- Delayed-release oral suspension
Typical Dosage
- 40 mg once daily for GERD
- 40 mg twice daily for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
Pediatric Dosage
- 5-20 mg daily based on weight and condition
Geriatric Dosage
- Usually similar to adult dosage, but may be adjusted based on renal function
