Mechanism of Action

  • Inhibits platelet activation and aggregation by irreversibly blocking the P2Y12 adenosine diphosphate receptor on platelets

Indications

  • Prevention of blood clots in patients with acute coronary syndrome, including those undergoing angioplasty and stenting

Typical Dosage

  • Loading dose of 60 mg, followed by a maintenance dose of 10 mg once daily

      Side Effects

      • Bleeding, including life-threatening and fatal bleeding, hypersensitivity reactions, chest pain, headache, dizziness, and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

      Contraindications

      • Active pathological bleeding, history of transient ischemic attack or stroke, urgent need for surgery
