Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 50-100 mg 4 times daily for anxiety and tension relief
- Children (>6 years): 50-100 mg daily in divided doses for anxiety and tension relief
- Adults: 25 mg 3 to 4 times daily for pruritus due to allergic conditions
- Children (>6 years): 50-100 mg daily in divided doses for pruritus
- Adults: 50-100 mg as a sedative
- Children: 0.6 mg/kg of body weight as a sedative
Interaction

Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Hydroxyzine or any of its ingredients

- Rare side-effects: hypotension, palpitation, arrhythmias, dizziness, confusion, depression, sleep disturbances, tremor, convulsions, hypersensitivity reactions, blood disorders, liver dysfunction, angle-closure glaucoma
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Contraindicated in early pregnancy
- Not known whether excreted in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Consider potentiating action when used with CNS depressants
- Warn patients of drowsiness
- Caution against driving or operating machinery
- Advised against simultaneous use of other CNS depressant drugs
- Effect of alcohol may be increased
Use in Special Populations
- Renal impairment: half of the normal dose should be given
- Elderly: start with half the recommended dose
Overdose Effects
- Manifestation: hypersedation
- If vomiting has not occurred spontaneously, it should be induced
- Immediate gastric lavage is recommended
- General supportive care and close observation of the patient
- Hypotension control with intravenous fluids and specific medicines
- No specific antidote
- Hemodialysis may be indicated in specific cases
