Description

Indications
- Symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension
- Management of pruritus due to allergic conditions
- Sedative as premedication and following general anesthesia
Pharmacology
- Anxiolytic antihistamine of the piperazine class
- H1 receptor antagonist
- Not a cortical depressant
- Bronchodilator activity
- Antihistaminic and analgesic effects
- Antiemetic effect
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 50-100 mg 4 times daily
- Children (>6 years) dosage: 50-100 mg daily in divided doses
- Children (<6 years) dosage: 50 mg daily in divided doses
Interaction
- Potentiate Meperidine and barbiturates
- Not affect Atropine and other belladonna alkaloids
- No interference with the action of digitalis
- Avoid simultaneous administration with monoamine oxidase inhibitors
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Hydroxyzine or any of its ingredients

- Half dose in renal impairment patients
- Start with half the recommended dose in the elderly
Overdose Effects

- Control hypotension with intravenous fluids
