Primary Indications

Secondary Indications
- Functional, organic, infectious, dietetic origin nausea and vomiting
- Nausea and vomiting induced by radiotherapy or drug therapy or induced in migraine
Pharmacological Action
- Dopamine antagonist
- Blocks dopamine receptors in the ChemoreceptorTrigger Zone (CTZ) and stomach
- Restores normal motility and tone of the upper gastrointestinal tract
- Facilitates gastric emptying
- Enhances antral and duodenal peristalsis
Dosage Form
- Tablet

Adult Dosage
- 10-20 mg every 6-8 hours daily for dyspeptic symptom
- 20 mg every 6-8 hours daily for acute and sub-acute conditions
- 30-60 mg every 4-8 hours by rectum in suppositories
Children Dosage
- 2-4 ml suspension/10 kg body weight or 0.4-0.8 ml paediatric drops/10 kg body weight every 6-8 hours daily
- 0.2-0.4 mg/kg body weight every 6-8 hours daily for dyspeptic symptom
- 0.2-0.4 mg/kg body weight every 6-8 hours daily for acute and sub-acute conditions
- The maximum daily dose rectally in children's is 30 mg for those weighing 10 to 25 kg

Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug
- Neonates
- Gastrointestinal hemorrhage
- Mechanical obstruction or perforation
- Prolactin releasing pituitary tumor (prolactinoma)
Side Effects
- Transient intestinal cramps
- Extrapyramidal phenomena
- Increase in plasma prolactin level
- Rare allergic reactions such as rash and urticaria
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Can be used during the first trimester if justified by therapeutic benefit
- Excreted in breast milk but lower concentrations compared to plasma
- Nursing not recommended unless benefits outweigh potential risks
Precautions
- Caution in children due to risk of extra-pyramidal reactions
- Caution in patients with hepatic impairment

- Caution in patients with liver or kidney disorders
