Description
Dopamine antagonist medication primarily used for treating symptoms like dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, and delayed gastric emptying
DosageAndAdministration
- Should be taken 15-30 minutes before meals
- Adults: 10-20 mg (1-2 tablet or 10-20 ml suspension), every 6-8 hours daily
- Children: 2-4 ml suspension/10 kg body weight, every 6-8 hours daily

Indications

Pharmacology
Dopamine antagonist that blocks receptors in Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone and stomach, restoring normal gastrointestinal motility and tone
Interaction
- Anticholinergic drugs may antagonize the antidyspeptic effect
- Antacids and antisecretory drugs should not be given simultaneously
- Metabolized via CYP3A4 pathway, so caution with inhibitors like azole antifungals and HIV protease inhibitors
- Does not potentiate action of neuroleptics or dopaminergic agonists
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug
- Neonates, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation
- Prolactin releasing pituitary tumor (prolactinoma)
