Indications
- Gastric and duodenal ulcer

Pharmacology
- Inhibitor of gastric acid secretion

Contraindications

Side Effects

- Diarrhoea, headache, constipation, nausea/vomiting, and abdominal pain
- Dry mouth, stomatitis, candidiasis, and paraesthesia reported
- Dizziness, light headedness, and feeling faint associated with treatment
- Resolvable mental confusion, agitation, depression, and hallucinations in severely ill patients
- Arthritic and myalgic symptoms reported and resolved upon therapy cessation
- Various isolated cases including blurred vision, taste disturbance, and gynaecomastia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No adverse effects on pregnancy or health of fetus/newborn child from prospective studies
- Safe use during pregnancy
- No available information on passage into breast milk or effects on the neonate
- Breast-feeding discontinuation if essential use is considered
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients less than 18 years of age
Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid concomitant use of clopidogrel and omeprazole
- Increased risk of osteoporosis-related fractures with proton pump inhibitor therapy
- Atrophic gastritis occurrence with long-term treatment
- Potential methotrexate toxicities with co-administration of PPIs
