Pharmacology
- ModeOfAction: Proton pump inhibitor suppressing gastric acid secretion
- Absorption: Enteric-coated pellet formulation of esomeprazole magnesium
- Distribution: 97% bound to plasma proteins
- Metabolism: Extensively metabolized in the liver by CYP enzymes
- Excretion: Plasma elimination half-life of approximately 1-1.5 hours
Dosage
- Oral:
- 20 mg or 40 mg Once Daily for 4-8 Weeks
- 20 mg Once Daily for Maintenance
- IV Injection/Infusion: Dose varies based on indication and patient weight
Administration
- TabletOrCapsule: Swallowed whole, taken one hour before a meal
- OralSuspension: Mixed with water, to be taken within 30 minutes
- IVInjection: Prepared using 0.9% Sodium Chloride, administered over at least 3 minutes
Interaction
- Metabolized by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
- May interfere with absorption of other drugs
