Pharmacology

ModeOfAction: Proton pump inhibitor suppressing gastric acid secretion
Absorption: Enteric-coated pellet formulation of esomeprazole magnesium
Distribution: 97% bound to plasma proteins
Metabolism: Extensively metabolized in the liver by CYP enzymes
Excretion: Plasma elimination half-life of approximately 1-1.5 hours

Dosage

Oral:
- 20 mg or 40 mg Once Daily for 4-8 Weeks
- 20 mg Once Daily for Maintenance
IV Injection/Infusion: Dose varies based on indication and patient weight

Administration

TabletOrCapsule: Swallowed whole, taken one hour before a meal
OralSuspension: Mixed with water, to be taken within 30 minutes
IVInjection: Prepared using 0.9% Sodium Chloride, administered over at least 3 minutes

Interaction

Metabolized by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
May interfere with absorption of other drugs
