Description
- Dopamine antagonist medication for the treatment of nausea and vomiting
- Gastroprokinetic action based on blocking effect of dopamine receptors
- Restores normal motility and tone of the upper gastrointestinal tract
- Facilitates gastric emptying and enhances antral and duodenal peristalsis
- Regulates contraction of the pylorus and increases esophageal peristalsis
- Lower esophageal sphincter pressure to prevent regurgitation of gastric content

Usability Features
- Designed for oral administration before meals, if necessary, before retiring
- Also available in suppository form for rectal administration
Dosage
- Adults: 10-20 mg (1-2 tablets or 10-20 ml suspension), every 6-8 hours daily
- Children: 2-4 ml suspension/10 kg body weight or 0.4-0.8 ml pediatric drops/10 kg body weight, every 6-8 hours daily
Maximum Dosage
80 mg daily for adults
Indications
- Dyspeptic symptom complex
- Acute nausea and vomiting of various origins
- Parkinson's disease induced nausea and vomiting
- Speeding barium transit in follow-through radiological studies
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to domperidone
- Neonates
- Gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation
- Prolactin releasing pituitary tumor (prolactinoma)
Side Effects
- Transient intestinal cramps
- Rare extrapyramidal phenomena in adults
- Increase in plasma prolactin level
- Rare allergic reactions such as rash and urticaria
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Usage justified during first trimester if therapeutic benefit outweighs risk
- Excreted in breast milk at lower levels compared to plasma concentrations
- Nursing not recommended unless expected benefits outweigh potential risk
Precautions
- Use with caution in children due to risk of extra-pyramidal reactions
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment
Special Populations
- Use in infants with caution and under close medical supervision
- Use with caution in patients with liver and kidney disorders
