Composition
- 375 mg tablet: Contains Amoxicillin 250 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
- 625 mg tablet: Contains Amoxicillin 500 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
- 1 gm tablet: Contains Amoxicillin 875 mg and Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
- Powder for Suspension: Contains Amoxicillin 125 mg and Clavulanic Acid 31.25 mg
- Powder for Suspension (Forte): Contains Amoxicillin 400 mg and Clavulanic Acid 57.5 mg
- 1.2 gm Injection: Contains Amoxicillin 1 gm and Clavulanate Potassium 200 mg
- 0.6 gm Injection: Contains Amoxicillin 500 mg and Clavulanate Potassium 100 mg
Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum bactericidal activity
- Degradation susceptibility to beta-lactamases
- Inactivation of beta-lactamase enzymes
- Peak serum levels after oral administration
- Optimized absorption at the start of a meal
Dosage
- Various dosages for different age groups
- Tablet dosing frequency and severity-based dosing

- Increased dosages for more serious infections
Administration
- Oral dosage form without regard to meals
- Enhanced absorption when administered at the start of a meal
- IV injection over 2 minutes or slow intravenous infusion over 30 minutes
- Use of reconstituted vial within 20 minutes
Interaction
- Prolongation of bleeding time and prothrombin time
- Reduced efficacy of oral contraceptives
- Concomitant use of allopurinol
- Potential cross-sensitivity with other beta-lactam antibiotics
Contraindications
- History of Penicillin hypersensitivity
- Cross-sensitivity with other beta-lactam antibiotics
- Previous history of Co-amoxiclav or Penicillin-associated cholestatic jaundice
Side Effects
- Uncommon and transient side effects
- Gastrointestinal side effects reduced by taking with meals
- Rare occurrence of hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice
- Reports of urticarial and erythematous rashes
- Incidence of angioedema and anaphylaxis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No teratogenic effect in animal studies
- Limited use in human pregnancy with no untoward effects
- Detection of trace quantities in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with care in patients on anticoagulation therapy
- Dosage adjustment in severe hepatic dysfunction
- Adjustment needed in case of moderate or severe renal impairment
Use in Special Populations
- Dose adjustment for patients with renal impairment
- Hepatic function monitoring at regular intervals
Overdose Effects
- Unlikely occurrence of overdose problems
- Potential gastrointestinal symptoms and fluid/electrolyte imbalance
- Removal from circulation by haemodialysis
