Indications

Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Inhibits formation of bacterial cell wall
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Mechanism of action: Inhibits transpeptidase enzyme, weakens cell wall, causes cell rupture
- Properties: Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase, gastric acid stability

- Oral administration for adults and children
- Parenteral administration for adult, elderly, and children
- Dosage adjustment for severe infections

- Oral doses to be taken 1 hour before meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use may increase blood levels of Staflu
