Description

  • Amikacin Sulfate is indicated in the short-term treatment of serious infections due to susceptible strains of Gram-negative bacteria, bacterial septicemia, serious infections of the respiratory tract, bones and joints, central nervous system, skin and soft tissue, intra-abdominal infections, burns, postoperative infections, complicated and recurrent urinary tract infections, and staphylococci infections. It is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic with activity against various bacteria. The dosage varies for adults, children, neonates, premature children, and elderly and should be adjusted based on renal function. It can be administered intramuscularly or intravenously and used intraperitoneally. There are contraindications, interactions with other medications, potential side effects, implications during pregnancy and lactation, precautions related to renal function, and considerations for pediatric use. In case of overdose, peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis may aid in the removal of the drug from the blood. It belongs to the therapeutic class of Aminoglycosides and should be stored below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
