Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, urinary tract infection, meningitis, septicaemia
- Prophylactic agent for major surgical procedures
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Resistance to hydrolysis by penicillinase
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Inhibition of cell wall formation of bacteria
Dosage
- Adult oral dosage: 250 mg four times daily
- Adult intravenous dosage: 250 mg-1 g four times daily
- Dosing doubled in severe infections
- Children's dosage: based on age
Administration
- Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use may increase Eflucin levels in blood
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Common gastrointestinal side effects
- Rashes, urticaria, purpura
- Interstitial nephritis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice

- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in hepatic dysfunction
- Caution in patients with allergic diathesis

- Reduction in dose in severe renal failure
