Indications
- Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
- Treatment of respiratory tract infections
- Treatment of osteomyelitis
- Treatment of enteritis
- Treatment of endocarditis
- Treatment of urinary tract infection

- Prophylactic use in major surgical procedures
Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Inhibits the formation of bacterial cell wall
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Useful against penicillinase-producing staphylococci
Dosage
- Oral administration for adults: 250 mg four times daily
- Double dosage in severe infections
- Parenteral administration for adults: 250 mg-1 g four times daily
- Double systemic doses in severe infections
- Dosage for children (2-10 years): half of the adult dose
- Dosage for children (Under 2 years): a quarter of the adult dose
Administration
- Oral doses should be administered 1 hour before meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use may result in increased level of drug in blood for prolonged period
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

- Use with caution in patients with evidence of hepatic dysfunction
- Caution in the treatment of patients with an allergic diathesis
Use in Special Populations
- Consider reduction in dose in severe renal failure (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min)
