Pharmacology
- Active against Gram-positive organisms
- Little activity against Gram-negative bacilli
- Bactericidal antibiotic
- Inhibits formation of bacterial cell wall
- Resists action of bacterial penicillinase
- Interferes with peptidoglycan synthesis
Dosage
- 250mg oral dose for adults
- 1/2 adult dose for children (2-10 years)
- 1/4 adult dose for children (under 2 years)
- Up to 8g daily for severe infections
- Parenteral administration for adults and children
Administration
- Oral doses administered 1 hour before meal
Interaction
- Concurrent use may increase Skilox levels in blood
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
