Description
- This product is indicated for patients with essential hypertension, angina pectoris and hypertension as co-existing diseases, post myocardial infarction patients, and patients with refractory angina pectoris where nitrate therapy has failed. It is a fixed-dose combination of Amlodipine and Atenolol. The recommended dosage is one tablet once daily, with the option to increase to two tablets daily as advised by physicians. It has various interactions, contraindications, side effects, precautions, and overdose effects. It belongs to the therapeutic class of combined antihypertensive preparations and should be stored below 30°C away from light and moisture.
Dosage and Administration
- Recommended dosage is 5/25 mg tablet once daily, may increase to 5/25 mg two tablets daily or as advised by physicians. Dosage should be individualized.
Pharmacology
- Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium antagonist that inhibits calcium ion influx, acts on vascular smooth muscle, reduces peripheral vascular resistance, and lowers blood pressure. Atenolol is a cardioselective beta-blocker that reduces blood pressure by lowering cardiac output, decreasing plasma renin activity, and sympathetic outflow from CNS.
