Indications

Mode of Action

• Bactericidal activity against Gram-positive microorganisms
• Bactericidal activity against Gram-negative microorganisms
• Susceptible to degradation by beta-lactamases
• Inactivation of beta-lactamase enzymes
• Extended antibiotic spectrum

Administration

• History of Penicillin hypersensitivity
• Possible cross-sensitivity with other beta-lactam antibiotics
• Contraindicated for patients with a previous history of cholestatic jaundice

• Reported gastrointestinal side effects
• Rare cases of hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice
• Reported skin reactions and dermatitis
• Instances of angioedema and anaphylaxis

Pregnancy & Lactation

• No teratogenic effect observed in animal studies
• Limited use in human pregnancy with no untoward effect
• Not recommended for use in pregnancy
• Detection of trace quantities in breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with care in patients on anticoagulation therapy
• Use with care in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction
• Dosage adjustments for patients with moderate or severe renal impairment

Use in Special Populations

Overdose Effects
