Indications

  • Relief from chronic heartburn symptoms and other symptoms associated with GERD
  • Healing of erosive esophagitis
  • Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis
  • Eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with duodenal ulcer disease
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
  • Acid-related Dyspepsia
  • Duodenal & Gastric ulcer

Pharmacology

  • Proton pump inhibitor
  • Suppresses gastric acid secretion
  • Specific inhibition of the H+/K+-ATPase
  • Better acid control than racemic proton pump inhibitors
  • Absorption: Enteric-coated pellet formulation
  • Peak plasma levels at approximately 1.5 hours
  • Distribution: 97% bound to plasma proteins
  • Metabolism: Extensively metabolized in the liver
  • Excretion: Less than 1% excreted in the urine

Dosage

  • Oral dosage form
  • IV Injection or IV infusion
  • Dosage range for different indications

Administration

  • Tablet or capsule: Swallowed whole, taken one hour before a meal
  • Oral Suspension: Preparation and administration
  • IV Injection: Preparation and administration

Interaction

  • Metabolized in the liver by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4
  • Inhibition of CYP2C19
  • Interference with drug absorption based on gastric pH

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation

Pregnancy & Lactation
