Tyclav 250 mg+125 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Treatment of bacterial infections in upper respiratory tract
• Treatment of bacterial infections in lower respiratory tract
• Treatment of genito-urinary tract infections
• Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections
• Treatment of bone and joint infections
• Treatment of other infections like septic abortion, puerperal sepsis, intra-abdominal sepsis

Composition

• 375 mg tablet: Amoxicillin 250 mg, Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
• 625 mg tablet: Amoxicillin 500 mg, Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
• 1 gm tablet: Amoxicillin 875 mg, Clavulanic Acid 125 mg
• Powder for Suspension: Amoxicillin 125 mg, Clavulanic Acid 31.25 mg
• Powder for Suspension (Forte): Amoxicillin 400 mg, Clavulanic Acid 57.5 mg
• 1.2 gm Injection: Amoxicillin Sodium 1 gm, Clavulanate Potassium 200 mg
• 0.6 gm injection: Amoxicillin Sodium 500 mg, Clavulanate Potassium 100 mg

Pharmacology

• Bactericidal activity against many Gram-positive & Gram-negative microorganisms
• Inactivation of a wide range of beta-lactamase enzymes

Dosage

• Recommended dosage for adults and children over 12 years
• Different dosage for different types and severity of infections
• IV Injection dosage for adults and children

Administration

• Oral dosage form may be taken with or without meals
• IV injection is not suitable for intramuscular or subcutaneous administration

Interaction

• Prolongation of bleeding time and prothrombin time
• Reduction in efficacy of oral contraceptives
• Concomitant use of allopurinol during treatment with amoxicillin

Contraindications

• History of Penicillin hypersensitivity
• Contraindicated for patients with a previous history of Co-amoxiclav or Penicillin-associated cholestatic jaundice

Side Effects

• Uncommon and mainly of mild and transitory nature
• Reported side effects include diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, candidiasis, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, rashes, angioedema, anaphylaxis

Pregnancy & Lactation

• No teratogenic effect in animal studies
• Limited use in human pregnancy with no untoward effect
• Trace quantities of Amoxicillin detected in breast milk during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with care in patients on anticoagulation therapy or with severe hepatic dysfunction
• Dosage adjustment for patients with moderate or severe renal impairment

Use in Special Populations

• Adjustment of dose in case of patients with renal impairment
• Special precautions for patients with hepatic impairment

Overdose Effects

• Unlikely to occur
• Gastrointestinal symptoms and disturbance of fluid and electrolyte balances may be evident
