Indications

Pharmacology
- Bactericidal activity against Gram-positive & Gram-negative microorganisms
- Protection of Amoxicillin from degradation by (3-lactamase enzymes
- Peak serum levels occur about one hour after oral administration
Dosage
- Adjusted dosages for adults, children over 12 years and children of different age groups
- Different dosages for different types of infections
- IV Injection dosage for adults and children
Administration
- Oral dosage form can be taken with or without meals
- IV injection is not suitable for intramuscular or subcutaneous administration
- Reconstituted vial must be used within 20 minutes
Interaction
- Prolongation of bleeding time and prothrombin time reported in some patients
- Possible reduction of efficacy of oral contraceptives
- Concomitant use with allopurinol and allergic skin reactions
Contraindications
- History of Penicillin hypersensitivity
- Possible cross-sensitivity with other beta-lactam antibiotics
- Contraindicated for patients with previous Co-amoxiclav or Penicillin-associated cholestatic jaundice
Side Effects
- Uncommon and mainly of mild and transitory nature
- Gastrointestinal side effects may be reduced by taking with meals
- Rare reports of hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, rashes, angioedema and anaphylaxis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Animal studies show no teratogenic effect
- Limited use in human pregnancy with no untoward effect
- Use in lactation results in trace quantities of Amoxicillin in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with care in patients on anticoagulation therapy or with severe hepatic dysfunction
- Dosage adjustment in case of moderate or severe renal impairment
- Maintain adequate fluid intake and urinary output during high dose administration
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustment in case of patients with renal impairment
- Administration hepatic impairment with caution; monitor hepatic function at regular intervals
Overdose Effects
- Unlikely problems of overdose
- Possible gastrointestinal symptoms and disturbance of fluid and electrolyte balances
- Possible removal from circulation by haemodialysis

Storage Conditions
- Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture
- Reconstituted suspension should be kept in the refrigerator (but not frozen)
