Indications

Gastric and duodenal ulcer

Pharmacology

Inhibitor of gastric acid secretion
Blocks hydrogen-potassium-adenosine triphosphatase enzyme system
Onset of antisecretory effect within one hour
Maximum effect occurs within two hours
Inhibition of secretion lasts up to 72 hours

Different dosages for different indications
Dosage range: 10-120 mg daily

Interaction

Impact on absorption of ketoconazole
Metabolism in the liver through cytochrome P450
Interactions with diazepam, phenytoin, warfarin, clarithromycin

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to omeprazole
Suspicion of gastric ulcer should exclude malignancy before treatment
