Inhibitor of gastric acid secretion

20 mg once daily for duodenal ulceration
40 mg daily for severe or recurrent cases
10-20 mg daily for prevention of relapse in duodenal ulcer
20 mg once daily for 4 weeks for gastro-esophageal reflux disease
40 mg once daily for 8 weeks in refractory cases of gastro-esophageal reflux disease
10-20 mg daily for long-term management of acid reflux disease
10-20 mg once daily for 2-4 weeks for acid-related dyspepsia
40 mg on the preceding evening and 2-6 hours before surgery for prophylaxis of acid aspiration
60 mg once daily for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
20 mg twice daily in Helicobacter pylori eradication regimen
10-20 mg once daily for 4-12 weeks for pediatric use in severe ulcerating reflux esophagitis

For IV Injection: Slow intravenous injection over 2 to 5 minutes
For IV Infusion: Over a period of 20-30 minutes or more
Solution for IV infusion should be used within 12 hours when dissolved in saline and within 6 hours when dissolved in 5% Dextrose

Decreased intragastric acidity may reduce absorption of ketoconazole
Metabolized in the liver through cytochrome P450, may delay elimination of diazepam, phenytoin, and warfarin
Plasma concentrations of Losectil and clarithromycin are increased during concomitant administration
No evidence of interaction with phenacetin, theophylline, caffeine, propranolol, metoprolol, cyclosporin, lidocaine, quinidine, estradiol, amoxycillin, antacids, piroxicam, diclofenac, naproxen, alcohol, or food

Hypersensitivity to Omeprazole, suspicion of gastric ulcer with possibility of malignancy

Skin rash, urticaria, pruritus
Photosensitivity, bullous eruption, erythema multiforme, angioedema, alopecia
Diarrhea, headache
Gastrointestinal reactions such as constipation, nausea/vomiting, flatulence, abdominal pain
Paraesthesia, dizziness, light headedness, faint feeling
Somnolence, insomnia, vertigo
Reversible mental confusion, agitation, depression, hallucinations
Arthritic and myalgic symptoms
Blurred vision, taste disturbance, peripheral edema, increased sweating, gynaecomastia
Leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, anaphylactic shock, malaise, fever
Encephalopathy, hepatitis, interstitial nephritis, hepatic failure
Increases in liver enzymes

Omeprazole can be used during pregnancy, no information available on passage into breast milk or its effects on the neonate

Avoid concomitant use with clopidogrel
PPI therapy may be associated with increased risk for osteoporosis-related fractures
Atrophic gastritis noted in long-term treatment
Concomitant use with methotrexate may lead to methotrexate toxicities
